New letters introduced: l, t & k
New muscle words: to & do
Reader's Workshop: This week we focused on rhyming. We read rhyming books and practiced making and recognizing rhymes. I would encourage you to have your child practice rhyming this weekend.
Writer's Workshop: This week the students began putting their drawing and story telling skills to work and become authors. They were introduced to a 3 page book. We practiced telling what happens at the beginning, middle and end their story and then illustrated each page. Next week we will begin/attempt writing words to help tell our story!
Math: This week the students worked on counting collections and 1:1 correspondence. They did this by practicing counting collections each day individually and with a classmate using 2 different counting strategies; push away or lining up. We also worked on counting forwards and backwards from 1-10 and 10-1.
Here is an example of lining up counting.
Here is an example of partner push away counting.
Fire Safety: Today the children were visited by members of the Cambridge Fire Department for our annual Fire Safety presentation.
Open House: Next week, on Wednesday, October 16th from 6pm-7pm CES will hold Open House. All are invited to come and see our school. Your children are excited to have the opportunity to show you their hard work and where they spend their days!
Have a great weekend and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
