Hello everyone! We have a very busy and productive week. I feel like the children are beginning to learn the routines and our days are going a little more smoothly ;)
Highlights from the week:
- Letters introduced: g & q Letters reviewed: c,o, a, d,
- Muscle words introduced: he & she Muscle words reviewed: I, a, yes, no, me, we Please have your child practice reading and writing their muscle words at home. Each week we will add one or 2 new muscel words. They are cumulative and it's very important that they learn them as we go.
- Reader's Workshop: This week we learned about nursery rhymes and practice saying them together using pointy porcupine! This is the first of many strategies that we teach the children when they are learning to read. Pointy Porcupine
- Writer's Workshop: During Writer's Workshop the children have been working on adding letters and "words" to their pictures. Right now we are focusing on hearing the sound at the beginning and end of a word.
- Color Week! *** Please note the change from the original notice sent home.***We are studying rainbows next week!Let’s try to wear these colors each day:Monday – RedTuesday – Orange and YellowWednesday – School Picture Day!Thursday – GreenFriday – Blue and Purple
- Math: The children have been continuing their work of building their understanding of numbers 0-10. Every few days they learn a new station. This week they learned about representing numbers with tally marks and learned how to play a game called Who Has More? with a deck of cards. Below is a video of how to play so you can play at home. All you need is a deck of cards with the J, Q & K's removed.
- McGriff Reading Program! We are so lucky to have the McGriff Reading Program in our school! What an amazing opportunity for students to practice their literacy skills. This week the children met the dogs, Matti, Mazie and Cheddar. Next week they will officially start. Each Thursday, 3 students will go one at a time to practice reading the books in their reading bags.
- School Picture Day! Next Wednesday, October 2nd is School Picture Day! If you have not yet returned your child's picture envelope please do so by then.
