Muscle words of the week: look & book
Reader's Workshop: Throughout the month of February we are focusing on characters! As we read stories the students are thinking about character traits and ways to describe the characters. They are also learning to use evidence from the book to back up why they chose that trait.
Writer's Workshop: We are officially done with opinion writing and are moving on to an author study about Eric Carle. Throughout the month of February we will be reading lots of books written by Eric Carle and noticing similarities between his books (ex. he writes mostly about animals, he puts faces on his suns, he often has a repeating line, etc). Students will use this information to write an Eric Carle inspired story. They will even illustrate their book using the same collage style that Eric Carle uses.
Math: As of right now, the 100th day of kindergarten will be next Wednesday, February 12. This week and next we will continue to do a story problem out of our Bedtime Math book each day, but we will also be doing lots of work with 100's charts. yesterday the students made observations about the 100's chart and today they practiced efficiently finding numbers on it. Here is the link to and interactive 100 chart that we have been using on the Smartboard. Your child might enjoy accessing on an iPad or computer at home.
